Early Childhood Program

Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. School has developed an Early Childhood Program for children ages 3-5 based on the Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards (IELDS), which provides expectations for children’s growth, development and learning in the preschool years.  The benchmarks for preschool focus on:

  • Language Arts

  • Math

  • Science

  • Social Studies

  • Physical Development and Health

  • Arts

  • Social Emotional Development

Along with the educational benchmarks, the program will offer functional approaches to challenging behaviors which will teach students predictability and routine. Communication, problem solving and community skills are also integrated into the benchmarks.

Family involvement is also a key component to the program. Teaming and collaboration between the family and school personnel will allow for ongoing student progress at school and home.  Parent workshops will be offered to provide support and education for families on child development, disabilities and other needs related to each individual student.
